Dash is an unlockable ability first
Before treating a silent dash button as a bug, confirm you have actually unlocked it. In IGTAP the dash is not available from the start: it is a movement ability purchased through progression, and the Steam achievement Spintap — "Unlock the dash ability." marks the moment it becomes available. Around 94.7% of Steam players have earned it, and it typically comes after the wall jump in the ability sequence.
If you have just started a fresh run or a fresh save, pressing the dash key will do nothing until the corresponding upgrade is bought. The same logic applies to every later movement ability: double jump ("Jump, but again."), block polarity swap, teleporters, zip movers and the omni-dash each have their own unlock, and none of them work before you pay for them at the relevant kiosk or box.

Keybind and Sticky Keys checks
If the dash is unlocked but still not firing, the community's first suggestions are input-related. In the browser builds, players reported the dash being mapped to Shift, which can trigger the Windows Sticky Keys dialog mid-game and make the key appear dead; turning Sticky Keys off in Windows settings, or rebinding the dash in the game's options, resolved those reports.
Steam players have the same remapping option in-game, and one Steam thread starter tried remapping to "more than half of my keyboard" before discovering the cause was not the keybind at all. So if rebinding does not help, stop rebinding and look at the save-state explanations below instead.

Community-reported dash bugs
Two distinct community-reported issues are worth knowing about. During the web demo era, a galaxy.click commenter reported that the dash did nothing even after changing the keybind; the developer replied that it was a bug introduced by accident the previous day and that a patch was coming soon. If you play the browser builds, make sure the page is fully reloaded so you are on the patched build.
The second is rarer but more stubborn: a Steam discussion titled "Dash not working?" described a character that refuses to dash on any key after the ability was obtained. A community reply attributed this to a corrupted save in which the player-data values for the dash were reset, and pointed to a community save-editing tutorial as a workaround. Editing save files is a community suggestion, not an official fix — it can permanently break a run, so back up your saves first and treat any guide you follow as use-at-your-own-risk.

Omni-dash confusion: missing double jump is intentional
Some "dash not working" reports are actually omni-dash confusion. Late in the game, the omni-dash upgrade (achievement: "All angle igtap") historically traded away the double jump, changing how the dash behaves in eight directions. Players used to dash-plus-double-jump combos suddenly found their old inputs doing the wrong thing.
Hotfix #2, posted to the Steam Community Hub on September 22, 2026, made the omni-dash box a toggle: you can choose the omni-dash with one fewer jump, or keep your previous moveset. If your movement feels broken after touching the omni-dash box, revisit it and switch the toggle back. The loss of the double jump at that point is also partly by design — the game later awards the achievement "Jump, but again, again. — Regain the double jump ability." — so a temporarily altered moveset is not always a bug.

Where to get further help
There is no official Discord or support website for IGTAP. The developer actively reads the bug report thread on the Steam Community Hub, where they asked players to submit issues with a platform, replication steps and a detailed description. Searching the hub's discussions for "dash" turns up the threads referenced above.
If you report the issue, include whether you are on the Steam build or a browser build, what you have unlocked (the Spintap achievement is a quick proof), and whether the problem survives a game restart. For the mechanics themselves, see our guides to the dash and all movement abilities.
