Your best time is your income

The single most important tip in IGTAP: clones replay the route you recorded at your best time, so every second you shave off a course is a permanent raise. A clean, tight run beats a safe, slow one — you are not just finishing courses, you are authoring the path an army will repeat forever. When a course's settlement panel shows your Best time, treat it as a score to attack, not a record to file away. Route optimisation has its own deep-dive pages: fastest route and general route planning.

Spend toward the bottleneck, then explore

Per-course upgrades cap out, and the way forward is a mix of global purchases like "boost all previous courses" and the capstone abilities at each stage. When the next upgrade feels hopelessly far off, the community's consistent advice — echoed in an itch.io comment from a player helping newcomers — is to stop grinding and go explore instead: hidden secret upgrades scattered through the world hand out global bonuses that outscale anything the kiosks sell at that point. 92.1% of Steam players have found at least one secret upgrade, but only 1.1% have found them all, so there is nearly always one more waiting. See hidden bonuses and best upgrades for the details.

Revisit old courses after every ability unlock

New movement abilities open faster routes inside courses you already finished. Players singled this out as one of the game's best feelings: coming back to course one with the dash and double jump and watching the old best time collapse. Make it a habit — every time you unlock wall jump, dash, double jump, polarity swap or anything later, spend a few minutes re-running your oldest courses before pushing into new ones. Your clone income across the whole game compounds from those cheap seconds.

Learn the community's movement tech

The demo and release comment threads preserve a few player-verified tricks worth practising:

  • Dash into a wall and wall-jump immediately on contact to climb higher than a plain wall jump (reported by players on the galaxy.click demo page).
  • Hitting a bumper resets your double jump and dash, and dashing can cancel the bumper's recoil — the key to the demo's secret level and useful elsewhere (reported on itch.io).
  • Pressing jump and dash together produces an odd combined leap. The developer's only public response to it was a winking emoticon, so treat it as a discovered quirk, not an endorsed mechanic.

Our movement abilities guide covers the full unlock sequence, and the dash page goes deep on the game's signature tool.

Check the omni-dash toggle before you panic

Late in the Steam release, the omni-dash upgrade originally removed your double jump, which felt like a bug to many players and drove the loudest launch-week complaints. Hotfix #2, posted September 22, 2026, made it a choice: the omni-dash box can now toggle between eight-directional dashing with one fewer jump, or keeping your existing moveset. If your jumps feel broken after that point in the game, revisit the box and switch it — and note that regaining the double jump later is an intended part of progression, with its own achievement ("Jump, but again, again.").

Understand atoms before your first prestige

The release version's prestige loop trades your watts and course upgrades for atoms, which grow an upgrade tree that unlocks refresh orbs, zip movers, teleporters, green clones and more. Resetting feels terrifying the first time, but movement abilities and tree progress are what carry the long game, and buying your first atom is an achievement in itself ("I am igtapic.", 61.0% of players). The exact upgrade economics are undocumented officially, so be sceptical of any hard numbers; our upgrade order and build order guides stick to what sources support.

Play the achievement list smart

A few habits save hours if you care about the 29 achievements. Turn the music off at some point — "Please Be Quiet" is a free unlock that 36.7% of players have claimed. Don't chase the death milestones (100 and 500 deaths) early; they accrue naturally and the community's completion routes leave them for last. The spring achievement ("Igtap want boing boing") needs ten bounces without touching the ground, so plan it on a bumper-rich stretch rather than hoping for it. The full route is on our achievement guide and 100% completion page.

Match every tip to the right version

IGTAP effectively exists in three builds: the free web demo (galaxy.click and itch.io, no saving, some abilities like polarity swap missing), the pre-release Steam demo, and the full Steam release of September 21, 2026. Tips and prices recorded in one build routinely do not apply to another — the web demo cannot even keep your save. Unless stated otherwise, everything on this site targets the full Steam release; if you are playing in a browser, check the browser guide and the not saving page first so you know what you are getting into.
